Overview of Hotel Déjà Vu: The Movie
Emily, a mysterious woman sent to Montreal, begins investigating strange recordings and fractured memories connected to Hotel Déjà Vu—a liminal place where voices echo, timelines blur, and reality folds inward. Told through music, dream logic, and surreal imagery, memories repeat, songs return in altered forms, and scenes seem to remember themselves before they happen. As the mystery begins to unravel, another question emerges: whose memories—or whose dream—have we been watching?

About the Director
Christopher Sopher is a Phoenix-based songwriter, composer, and independent filmmaker. His work combines original music with cinematic storytelling, often exploring memory, identity, relationships, and the strange spaces between reality and imagination. Hotel Déjà Vu is his first feature film, expanding an original collection of songs into a complete visual narrative.

Director Statement
Hotel Déjà Vu began with music. I had written a collection of songs that started to feel connected, as though they belonged to the same place and were telling pieces of a larger story. Instead of treating them as individual songs, I began thinking of them as a world.

The film grew from that idea. I used licensed cinematic footage, original music, editing, voice performance, and visual storytelling to construct a narrative around Emily and the mysterious Hotel Déjà Vu. I wanted the film to feel like memory itself—fragmented, repetitive, sometimes beautiful, sometimes unsettling, with moments that seem familiar even when you cannot explain why.

I made the film independently in Phoenix, Arizona. It is my first feature film and an experiment in what can happen when songwriting becomes filmmaking.
