It was a Sunday evening
Nothing special
I stepped outside to let the dog out

The Phoenix sky wasn't a sky anymore
It was water
Thin slivers of cloud stretched across it
Rippling like waves mid crash
As if the whole ceiling above me
Was in motion
I went back inside
Pulled a chair close to the glass door
And watched
That's when the shapes changed
Whales formed in the sky
Diving slowly from one world into another
Schools of fish followed
Moving without sound
Guided only by wind
I knew it wasn't real
And somehow that didn't matter
The thought came quietly

Not clouds holding rain
But something deeper

A veil
A place where one reality presses
